A group of billionaires led by Las Vegas casino owner Donald Sinclair (John Cleese) are constantly on the search for new things to bet on and Sinclair comes up with the ultimate wager. He decides to pull a group of six strangers together to race from Vegas to Silver City, New Mexico to retrieve $2 million from a railway locker. The first one there wins all the money. Brothers Duane and Blaine Cody (Seth Green & Vince Vieluf) start the mayhem by sabotaging the airport and it soon becomes an insane rush to commandeer any form of transport. With helicopter crashes, hot air balloon rides, breaking land speed records, a monster truck rally and a bus load of Lucille Ball impersonators, the race takes one unpredictable and riotous turn after another.

After hated NFL referee Owen Templeton (Cuba Gooding Jnr) is abandoned by a cabby in the desert, and mother and daughter team (Whoopi Goldberg & Lanai Chapman) are tricked by a squirrel-selling Kathy Bates, it's anyone's race! Even narcoleptic Italian Mr. Pollini (Rowen Atkinson) might stand a chance, if it weren't for the murderous ambulance driver he hitches a ride with, or a very determined father (Jon Lovitz) and his Jewish family stealing Hitler's personal touring car!
