Blockbuster's Marshall Julius is on a well
deserved holiday and will be back next week. In the meantime, I'm
going to help you to get the most out of Blockbuster Online - from
suggestions for Fathers Day and bargain DVDs for just £4.50
to TV DVDs and Batman
Begins.
First of all,
where are my manners?! Hi, my name is Mal Simons and I've worked for
Blockbuster for over 5 years; I started in a small store in the
Midlands and then moved to London a few years ago to work for
Blockbuster Online. I am mad about movies and like all genres and
types of film (although I'm not a massive fan of World Cinema). Now
that Big Brother has started, I find myself relying more and
more on my Unlimited DVD Rental
subscription. I can watch
what I want, when I want, all thanks to Blockbuster Online.
Right, down
to business! If, like me, you're on a budget and looking to get your
Dad a last minute gift for Fathers Day, then I recommend that you
check out the great value Ex-Rental DVDs
available to buy at www.blockbuster.co.uk. We have hundreds
of titles to choose from, all sent in their original packaging and
covered by a 30 Day money back guarantee. You can pick up "Dad
films" such as Pirates
of the Caribbean, The
Last Samurai and Underworld
for just £4.50;
Kill
Bill Vol 2, The
Alamo and Day
After Tomorrow for £6.50
or even Collateral,
King
Arthur and The
Punisher for £8.50.
All prices include postage and packaging!
I ordered a DVD for
myself last week (House
Of Sand And Fog - £4.50);
just to see how it all worked. Ordering online couldn't have been
simpler; costing a great deal less than if I had purchased this from
a store or elsewhere online, my order was processed straight away
and I received my DVD the very next day. I'm covered by the same 30
day money back guarantee that I'd get if I'd bought this brand new
and I've got myself a great film!
You can check out an A-Z
list of all DVDs available to buy online by clicking here.
There are loads of titles available - all at bargain prices! -
Genius!
If you're
looking for a film for your old man to enjoy on Fathers
Day then you should check out our new Fathers
Day collection which contains plenty of titles that we're sure
will appeal to most Dads! My two favourites would be The
Last Samurai and Once
Upon A Time In America.
If you haven't seen either The
Last Samurai or Once
Upon A Time In America then I think you should definitely add
them to your list (or buy them for £4.50). The Last
Samurai is, without a doubt, Tom
Cruise's finest film - it has a great story, amazing action
scenes and a terrific soundtrack by Oscar Winner Hans Zimmer (The
Lion King, Crimson
Tide, The
Peacemaker ); While Once
Upon A Time In America, is an immense saga which stays with
you long after the final credits roll. It spans four decades in the
lives of Jewish gangsters in New York's Lower East Side. It's
directed by Spaghetti Western legend Sergio
Leone and features top performances from Hollywood heavyweights
Robert
DeNiro and James
Woods.
However
if you these titles aren't for you, then check all of our other
collections to see what top titles and hidden treasures you can
find to add to your list. All Unlimited DVD Rental Subscribers can
simply add these to their list and wait for them to be dropped
through your door.
If you're not a subscriber - then you don't
know what you're missing out on! With Blockbuster's Unlimited DVD Rental
Service, you can build a list of DVDs you'd like to see, get up
to 5 DVDs out at a time, keep them all as long as you like and then
return them in the pre-paid envelopes to receive more. You can rent
as many DVDs as you like each month - from just £9.99 a month!
I've been a member of
our Unlimited DVD Rental Service for over a year now and believe me,
although I can get 10 Free Store Rentals a week as one of the many
benefits of working for
Blockbuster , I find renting online so much easier than
travelling to the store after work. I can choose from over 27,000
titles - more than any one store could possibly stock; and as there
are no due dates, I can keep the DVDs for as long as I like!

Because
I work for Blockbuster Online, studios often invite me to screenings
for films soon to be released on DVD. To mark the release of Kinsey
on DVD on the 11th July, 20th Century Fox invited me, as well as
members of the press to a screening of the film, followed by a panel
discussion hosted by journalist John Millar.
 Starring Liam
Neeson, Laura
Linney and Peter
Sarsgaard; Kinsey
is the fascinating, funny and controversial true story of the
Professor who was driven to uncover the most private sex secrets of
a nation. Professor Kinsey pretty much invented sex research when he
published his study - "Sexual Behaviour In The Human Male" back In
1948 and when he did, this changed the U.S.A forever!
Liam
Neeson (Kinsey)
really brings his character to life and the film stays largely true
to the events that occurred - or at least according to the panel of
experts which included Dr. John Bancroft, the ex director of the Kinsey
Institute, and Jonathan Gathorne-Hardy, the author of Kinsey: A
Biography, on which the film was based.
Given the subject matter, Kinsey
won't appeal to everyone and some viewers may find some of the
scenes distressing. It is a great film though, and Academy Award
winning director Bill
Condon (Gods
and Monsters, Candyman
2) has ensured that everything in the film is portrayed
accurately and tastefully. I certainly liked it, and if you're a fan
of quality dramas and don't mind a bit of controversy; Kinsey
may well be right up your street.
Other films that I've seen recently that you
should definitely catch upon release - Constantine
(a cross between The Exorcist
and The
Matrix), Miss
Congeniality 2 (not quite as good as the
original but still a great blockbuster), The
Assassination of President Nixon
(The Taxi Driver style film starring Sean
Penn) and Racing
Stripes (Malcolm In The Middle's Frankie
Muniz voices the Zebra in this great family film).
I have also been
catching up on some of the TV DVDs that people have sent me, with my
personal favourites being - Tru
Calling, That
70s Show, Smallville,
Kung
Fu (for nostalgia
value!) and Star
Trek Enterprise.
Touching
on Star
Trek for a moment; I rubbed shoulders with three former Star
Trek stars at a Paramount Party that I went to the other week to
mark the release of Team
America: World Police. Paramount pulled out all the stops and
invited a whole host of celebrities and industry insiders to a club
in Central London that had been kitted out with Team
America posters, flags and memorabilia. South
Park and Team
America creators Matt
Stone and Trey
Parker both were guests of honour that night while the Star Trek
stars attending included Robert
Beltran and Robert
Picardo from Star
Trek Voyager and Dominic Keating who plays the British Armoury
Officer 'Malcolm Reed' in Star
Trek Enterprise.
We have all the Star
Trek series and films to rent on site; Star
Trek: The Motion Picture SE and Star
Trek: Nemesis are currently available to buy for just £4.50
- I don't even know of Ferengi's that could get them this cheap!
There's a new Batman
film out At
The Cinema this week - Batman
Begins. Following the rather diabolical Batman
and Robin, Memento
director Christopher
Nolan has started again with this Batman prequel.
Much darker that the
other films, Batman
Begins has a new Batman (Christian
Bale), new Alfred (Sir
Michael Caine) and new villains (played by Cillian
Murphy and Tom
Wilkinson). There's yet another 'Batmobile' (which looks more
like a tank now!) and Batman still has all of the crime fighting
tools and ability that Gotham City's Police Force sadly lack... I
haven't seen this yet but it looks like a corker...or as Robin might
say - "Gee Wizz Batman, that looks like a Swell movie!"

Begins trailer by clicking on one of the links below:

Check
our At
The Cinema collection for a full listing of everything out at
the cinema. I added Batman
Begins, Star
Wars: Episode III and Millions
to my list yesterday so I can be sure that I won't forget to add
them.
Marshall
will be back with his regular column next week.
Happy
Viewing!
