I
watch a lot of movies. At least one a day. But no matter how many I
get through, there's always more to see. Not just new films, but
classics I've meant to get to for years. Like Play
Misty For Me. Even though Clint
Eastwood is like a god to me, his directorial debut has so far
eluded my telly. But no longer. It's on my Blockbuster Online list,
along with scores of other features I'm no longer content to admit
I've never seen. Like The
Wild Bunch and Patton.
And since I hate it when horror
movies pass me by, Cabin
Fever, My
Little Eye and Wrong
Turn as well.
Last night I saw Mommie
Dearest for the first time. A camp classic detailing the horrors
endured by Joan
Crawford's adopted daughter Christina, it's
a horrible, terrible, wonderful film, cheesy and overblown and all
the more fun because of it. For months my wife Laura had been
taunting me about never having seen it, but with Blockbuster
Online's help I was finally able to shut her up. Or so I thought.
"It still took you twenty years to see it," she said, laughing and
pointing. Regardless of her heckling I'm committed to filling all
the gaps in my movie knowledge, and I'd never be able to do it without
the site you see before you. Only at Blockbuster Online, do you have
access to more than 24,000 titles, and the list is only getting
longer. |
A
lot of people tell me they struggle to find the time to watch their
favourite TV shows and keep up on all the latest movies as well, but
I say make the time. Stay up late. Neglect your loved ones. Better
still, become a film critic. Then you can spend all day and all
night watching films, insisting it's for work. That's what I do.
There are just so many great movies out there waiting to be
discovered. So many bad films desperate to be laughed at. So much TV
Comedy
and episodic Sci-Fi to fill my head with. If only I didn't
have to sleep at all.
At least I no longer have to keep a
mental note of the films I've always wanted to see. These days, the
moment that I think of something that I want to catch up with, I
head straight for Blockbuster and add it to My List. Then it's up to
them to send it to me. I have no further responsibilities, and
frankly I think any service that makes life easier, particularly
when it comes to something as important as home entertainment, has
to be commended.
So, what do we have for you this week at
Blockbuster Online? To mark the release of The Manchurian
Candidate, a tense, exciting remake of the classic cold war
thriller, updated for the Noughties by Jonathan
Demme with Denzel
Washington and Meryl
Streep in the leads, we're looking at political films and
remakes, plus we have copies of the DVD to give away. We also have a
cupboard full of Warner
TV box sets that we're desperate for you to have. All we want to
do is to shower you with stuff. All you have to do is enter the competitions and maybe cross your fingers. |

Since
I'm not allowed to enter the competitions, what I'm
most excited about this week is the new Batman
DVD. The fourth volume of the animated series, subtitled Secrets
of the Caped Crusader, it includes a pair of great Catwoman
episodes and a chilling Mr Freeze story too. Next to The
Simpsons, Batman is the greatest animated TV show of all time.
Certainly the best and smartest, most atmospheric and exciting
action cartoon I've ever seen. Better than most live action too.
Nobody does it like Warner Bros Animation. From Bugs Bunny to Batman
I've been a loyal fan all my life, and they've never stopped
rewarding my devotion. For a taste of their genius, add some Looney
Tunes to your list, some Batman
too, and don't forget about The
Justice League.
Sleep less, watch more. That's my
philosophy. Why not make it yours?
See you next week!
